Future Asset enables girls in the senior phase of high school to learn about investment, gain valuable transferable skills and consider the benefits of possible future careers.
This year, through regional roadshows, teacher events and our national conference, we have worked with 484 girls and 113 teachers from 87 schools across Scotland.
National conference – 24 September 2019
Our national conference explored ESG investing and our key note speaker, Jo Swinson MP, inspired the girls to ‘make a difference’.
In 2019 we held 5 roadshows across Scotland where we reached 28 schools, 129 students and 22 teachers.
The aim of the roadshows:
- Roadshows are half-day workshops introducing girls to investment: what it is, why it is more varied and interesting than you might think and how there are lots of attractive careers available.
- With our ambassadors (volunteer investment professionals) girls work in teams to choose where to invest in our Dragons’ Den and manage a £100 million portfolio in our investment board game.
Educators breakfast briefing
As key influencers of young people, Future Asset works to inform teachers and careers advisers about the investment industry and wider opportunities in the financial services sector in Scotland.
At this event, we invited speakers from the industry, Skills Development Scotland and Heriot Watt University to discuss what investors do, roles and careers, qualifications and competencies required, and routes into the sector from graduate recruitment to apprenticeships. This also developed links between the investment sector, teachers and schools, creating understanding and the basis for further opportunities to inform and engage future talent.
Making your voice heard – communication workshop
In partnership with Bauer Academy and Forth FM, on 13 June we hosted a communications workshop.
10 students from 5 schools attended from Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian and Falkirk. This specialist workshop taught valuable interview techniques and allowed the students to play the role of media expert, creating a podcast at the national conference.

Developing priorities for 2020 and beyond
In November we held a strategy and planning session with stakeholders from across the industry and school ambassadors. The objective of this meeting was to review the activity over 2018/19, lessons learned and what our focus and priorities should be going forward.
