With your team members, your Investment Mentor, and when making your investment case, communication is the name of the game!
Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
Melanie Goward of Maven Capital is working with Greenfaulds High School and she says you don’t just have to understand what a company does (though that’s a great start), you have to explain that clearly to your audience – in your case, the competition judges.
When you produce your Research Report, make sure you clearly communicate:
- What the company does,
- How it makes its money, and
- Why you think it has great growth potential.
A great presentation gives smart ideas an advantage
Adam Drummond, Regional Director at Rathbones and mentor to the team from Williamwood High School, says communication and presenting is a key part of his job.
Adam presents every day to his clients to explain:
- What he thinks is the best investment strategy for their needs,
- Which are the companies he thinks a client should invest in, and
- Why he thinks they will work
But Adam says he hasn’t always been a great presenter. He’s had to learn and his tip – practice makes perfect!
Refine and Repeat!
Marie Storrar, a communications professional and Future Asset’s Social Media expert, explains how she works to ensure that anything and everything she works on is clear, simple and to the point. Don’t be scared to reiterate and refine, refine, refine.
