Tochi Favour Duruh

Tell us a bit about yourself and your background

Hi, my name is Favour Duruh and was born in Nigeria but grew up here in Scotland, attending St Aidan’s High School, which is where I took part in the Future Assets competition.

I am currently starting third year at the University of Glasgow and I am studying Scots Law. I have high interests in finance and commercial awareness alongside my law studies and strive to develop both hand in hand.

What was your experience like with Future Asset?

I was at first reluctant in participating in Future Assets as most of my subjects were very literature based (modern studies, english, business etc) but this actually helped me in the long run as I had those transferable skills of analysis and interpretation when I was researching and comparing the different companies’ innovations and finances. It also helped me become a good team worker with my peers as we worked towards a deadline. Overall, as much as it seemed stressful at first, it became such a bonding experience for all of us during our last year of high school!

What are your current career goals or aspirations?

At the moment I look forward to completing my law degree and branching out into a business/finance field. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with Future Asset which did surprised me and this has led me to seek other non-legal opportunities in order to be a well rounded individual ready for the workforce. I now take part in the Scottish Investment Operations (SIO) Career Pathway which gives me a mentor to explore the options of working in the Financial Services industry.

What advice would you give to students thinking about considering a career in finance?

I strongly urge students to take part in Future Assets as despite me taking part in it 2 years ago they have been such a helpful support network which you can reach out to via email, Linkedin, etc. Also the experience goes down a treat at interviews as it shows core transferable skills such as communication, presentation, teamwork, and time-management which all employers seek.
